Such statement that the current crisis of the state is normal sounds hysterical and irreverent to mass of the struggling people who has been relegated further to the dungeon of unrecoverable poverty by Mr. George Weah and his gang of incompetent bigots. Mr. Weah need to know that no crises in human history are normal. All crises are initiated by enforcing contradictions and other imposing conditions that act on the existing condition. Therefore, the prevailing economic condition of the state is not normal. It is a condition melted on our people by you and your predecessor. It has become complicated due to the inability of your Administration to find a genuine solution we therefore reject your claim that the current situation of the State is normal.
In a country where the leaders lives with deceptions, it signifies dancing on a rope over a deadly valley. President Weah is that character; He is dangling in blatant falsehood and diabolical deceptions. He has chosen to run the nation as gangster paradise. He befriends corruption with smile and openly frowns on transparency. He parades with lies and Pompousness while milking the sucking the resources of the State an outcome of chosen an inexperienced carpenter to captain a cargo ship over a deep sea. Indeed, the result will be nothing but a disaster.
Mr. President, you are noted for poor proper recollection of the past. We can therefore not get tire reminding you. On January 22, 2018 delivering your first Legislature agenda to the 54th Legislature in the Joint Chambers of the Capitol, you asserted that the countrys economy is broken and by extension the government. On the contrary, your predecessor Madam Sirleaf debunked you on February 13, 2018 that the National Coffers are not empty. With this response, your government is yet to respond to Madam Sirleaf neither have you commissioned a comprehensive audit of her regime.
Another lie pulled out shamelessly by the president is the circumstances surrounding the missing sixteen billion Liberia Dollars and the twenty-five millions United States Dollars misapplied by him and Samuel Tweh. He stated in his interview that the L$16billion came in the country but not under his administration. Here again, we see the President as messenger of lies abusing the patience of the People. How can President Weah tell the public that his administration never received 16 billion when said funds was taken from the Freeport of Monrovia on March 2, 2018? Is this not him who was inaugurated on January 22, 2018 as the President of Liberia? Of course, it is Mr. Weah. Again, we hold Weah and his gang of looters solely responsible for our missing billions. He is the chief culprit, noting cant convince us that President Weaah and the CDC are innocent of our missing billion not even an adapted report that was intended to seizure him from public persecution.
The Presidents interview was just outrageous as the existing contradictions under his Administration. The President sat on the radio and rang praises on a Samuel Tweh, the man who looted US$ 25 million. And this President wants us to believe that the current economic crisis is normal. No, it is not. How can you choose to protect a certified thief who manages the fiscal affairs of the State and wants the citizens to believe that the current economic crisis is normal this is a total mockery!
The President claims that people dont have confidence in the banks. You want the people to trust a system that does not meet up with their demand. In the midst of an unbearable hardship, you create an artificial shortage of money to make the citizens feel that there is true shortage of Liberian dollars. The Banks are holding on to the people money they are losing their friends and relative to death, starvation is eating up people, their kids are thrown out of school, they cant respond to their daily economic demand and you want them to trust this system that does not work for the poor. Mr. President, it is now time that you transition from comicality to puffer a matured statesmanship. Governing a State like Liberia is not the same as pushing a round object for ninety minutes.
When the country has an excessively corrupt and dysfunctional system, the president becomes the chief priest of lies and messenger of hate President Weah is indeed a chief priest of falsehood, his tongue dances better than his legs. On his recent interview, he said his government does not support war and economy crime court. On the contrary, this same president wrote the National Legislature on September 12, 2019 asking them to provide guidance on all Legislative and other necessary measures towards the implementation of the Truth & Reconciliation (TRC) report, including the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court. This same president repeated his call for war and economic crimes courts when he addressed world leaders at the UN General Assembly in September of this year. Again, we can say his recent rejection to bring the perpetrators of crime against humanity to justice by establishing the War and Economic Crime Courts proves that Mr. Weah does act on facts but instant and emotion that dictate to his current position thee impact of his decision is never a concern to him.
Comrades, Mr. Weah and the CDC have plundered the state into mess. He cant escape his indictment in the court of public persecution. He must account; the time is not what matters. The present condition will inform the next move of the people. It is a fact, Mr. Weah is a very simple footballing president; he does not understand the nuances of complicated governance issue. His responses to critical questions as seen in his last interview is a total shame. The government is a mixture of incompetent and loosed talking bureaucrats. The appointed officials of the government are impressionists who serve not to improve the material condition of the people but to facilitate mass looting of state resources. Indeed, Liberia has fallen The Economy is crumbling, the health system is in ruins, the working class labor daily but cant get their poverty wages sadly, we have a president that is yet to wake up from his slumber.
During his interview, Mr. Weah elected to praise his predecessor, Madam Sirleaf. The Political thief who robbed the Liberian people of their votes to give him power. A Sirleaf who along with her clique of thieves looted and bankrupted the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) and other states resources. A Sirleaf that embraced nepotism and cronyism with no regard to the rule of law; A Sirleaf that embraced corruption as her working tool you praise this Sirleaf but criticize her Party. It baffles us to query the difference between Madam Sirleaf and the Unity Party!
The belief that Weah and his gang of thieves will deliver Liberians from gloomy poverty to prosperity is an illusion that only makes sense to his zealots who have dug themselves in the mud blind sycophancy. Mr. Weah is a fair product of fraud and political conspiracy. He lacks what it takes to understand the nuances of a complicated governance issue especially in a troubling time like this. By all means, what Mr. Weah spewed out on December 20, 2019 during his purported live radio interview did not in any way surprise us. We long predicted Mr. Weah. Our call to the masses is to remain resilient and battle the excess mess created by Madam Sirleaf and complicated by his imposed. The masses are the makers of history. At the point of objective condition, they will liberate themselves through the guidance of conscious patriots.

The winter festival season is just around the corner, but theres one winter event that stands out above the rest.
Its called Frozen Dead Guy Days and its been happening in the mountain town of Nederland, Colorado (just over half an hour west of Boulder, Colorado), since 2002. Now in its 19th year, the quirky festival is still offering some not-so-traditional winter activities think polar plunges, human foosball, frozen T-shirt contests, and coffin races.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Frozen Dead Guy Days started when Bredo Morstoel, a public official from Norway died in 1989, according to the Denver 7. After his death, his grandson Trygve Bauge had his body sent to a San Francisco-based cryonics lab called Trans Time to be preserved (frozen) with the hope that science would one day cure his grandfathers ailments, according to Atlas Obscura.
While Morstoel was being preserved, Bauge built a cryonics chamber inside a Tuff Shed at his home in Nederland, Colorado outfitting it to withstand all kinds of natural and manmade disasters, according to Atlas Obscura. There, Bauges grandfather (and a few other frozen bodies that had been sent to Bauges lab) remained for a few years.

Unfortunately, in the mid-90s, Bauge was sent back to Norway and the frozen body was left with his mother in Colorado. The other bodies from Bauges fledgling cryonics lab were returned to their families. According to the Denver 7, Bauge now pays a man named Brad Wickham to deliver between 900 and 1,200 pounds of fresh dry ice every two weeks to cover his grandfathers sarcophagus which can still be found in Nederland.
Since Bauge left the country, the story of his grandfather and the failed cryonics facility have become part of the local history. And in 2002, the Frozen Dead Guy was suggested as a theme for the towns winter festival (perhaps jokingly, at first), according to Atlas Obscura. Yet the theme stuck, and the story has become part of Colorados culture (along with others).
The frigidly fun festival is now one of Colorados most anticipated winter events. It usually takes place over the course of three days in March. During the festivals most popular event, the coffin race, costume-clad teams show up with a decorated coffin. Each team must pay an entry fee of $75 and prizes are given out for the best time, best theme, and most notable screw up.
In addition to the coffin race and other events, the festival delivers plenty of live music and local food. The weekend starts with the annual Blue Ball, the festivals opening party. Our suggestion: Be sure to put on a warm winter coat, because March in Colorado can be particularly cold and snowy.

PHOENIX Ten of 21 plaintiffs who sued a now-shutteredPhoenix body donation company will be awarded $58 million, a Maricopa County Superior Court jury decidedTuesday.
Of the jury's award, $50 million was punitive damages, and $8 million was compensatory.
This is a landmark verdict, said Michael Burg, an attorney for the plaintiffs.
The jury began deliberating Nov. 12 whether to award up to $13.2 million each to plaintiffs who said the bodies of their deceased loved ones were mishandled and disrespected byBiological Resource Center of Phoenix.
Stephen Gore, the owner ofBiological Resource Center,was not in the courtroom Tuesday, and his lawyer declined comment.
The 21 plaintiffs in the civil action, filed in Maricopa County Superior Court in2015, saidthat theremains of their family members were obtained through "false statements," that body parts were sold for profitand that they were not stored, treated or disposed of with dignity or respect.

Arizona is a regulatory-free zone for the body parts industry.Atleastfourbody donation companies operatein the state, in addition toa nonprofit cryonics company thatfreezes people after they die with the intent of one day bringing them back to life.
Gore started his company in 2004 and never set out to defraud anyone, his lawyer Timothy O'Connor said during closing arguments.
O'Connor said all the plaintiffs signed consent agreements that they would donate their bodies to Biological Resource Center. The consent agreements clearly stated the bodies could be "disarticulated," he said, adding that Biological Resource Center was not the only body donation company to use such language.
One of thepoints Burg made during the two-week trial was that Gore misled prospective donors and their families by conflating organ donation and body donation, going so far as to mention the Donor Network of Arizona and its Donate Life slogan on his company literature, though the two entities had no relationship.

Organ donation and body donation are not the same thing, though it's a common source of confusion. Organ donation is highly regulated, whereas body donation is not.

In body donation, the cadaveris used for medical research, education and training. The head, arms and legs could be cut off, and no part of the body is ever transplanted into a living human.
There is no regulatory framework that requires body donation companies to disclose what they intend to do with the bodyor what happened with the body.
Biological Resource Center was private and for-profit.
Like many body donation companies, Biological Resource Center picked up bodies and returned the unused cremated remains to families free of charge.The company did outreach to hospitals and hospices across the state.
A cross-country criminal investigation into Biological Resource Center began after U.S. Customs officials found a shipmentfrom the company on a Delta cargo flightthat contained15 severed human heads dripping blood in plastic ice coolers, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich told the Arizona Republic in 2016.
An FBI officialwho participated in a raid of the company's Phoenix headquarters described seeing severed limbs, heads and a cooler full of penises. He said some of the FBI personnel who participated in the raiddid not want to go back into the building after what they'd seen.
In his closing arguments, Burg said there was never any evidence uncovered that showed what Biological Resource Center was doing with the male genitalia. He said there must have been a reason they were cut off, andthey weregoing to be used for"something."

Gore pleaded guilty in October 2015 to the charge of "illegally conducting an enterprise" after accusations that he provided vendors with contaminated human tissue andused body parts in ways that the donors had not permitted.
In aletter to Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Warren Granville before his sentencing in December 2015, Gore wrote that he felt overwhelmed, working in an industry with"no formal regulations." to guide him.
Gore was sentenced to four years of probation and a deferred sentence of one year in jail, which he did notserve because of good behavior.
Reacting to the Biological Resource Center case, Arizonapassed a lawin 2017 that says body donation companies are not allowed withouta state license.The law has not been implemented or enforced.

A bizarre Disney theory has been floating around since the release of Frozen in 2013, and people just cant... let it go.
The theory shows up on Reddit,on Twitter,and its regularly perpetuated in articles about Frozen.

The legend of Walt Disney being cryogenically frozen is easily one of the most enduring pop culture conspiracy theories. Its impressive considering all indications are that he was cremated. But no matter how many times the notion has been put on ice in the last 50 years, it keeps being revived, popping up again and again, serving as the butt of jokes in TV shows such as 30 Rock and Family Guy.
With Frozen 2 coming to theaters on Nov. 22, now seems as good a time as any to find out if the franchise had anything to do with the theory.
The answer, according to writer/director Jennifer Lee? Hell snow.
In a 2018 interview about another one of her movies, A Wrinkle in Time, HuffPost asked if shed heard about the theory.
I have heard that one, Lee said. These are things where Im like, we called it Frozen for thematic reasons, and we called it Disneys Frozen because Disney made the film. Disney paid for the film and distributed it.
Lee, who heads Disney Animation Studios, said all her creative energy went into the movie itself. She added with a laugh, I wish I were that clever.

The rumor that Walt Disney was frozen after his death has a few possible origins.But the theory seems to have been traced back to a 1972 interview between The Los Angeles Times and Robert Nelson, a former TV repairman who was enamored with cryonics and became the president of the Cryonics Society of California.
In comments from the interview surfaced by Los Angeles Magazine, Nelson mentions that Disney wanted to be frozen but claims he missed out. Weeks after his death in December 1966, a man named James Bedford became the first to freeze. (Hes still chilling today.)
In Nelsons 2014 memoir, Freezing People Is (Not) Easy, he recalled his rise and fall in the field of cryonics including a scandalin which nine bodies Nelson was preserving in a cemetery vault in Chatsworth,a Los Angeles suburb,had thawed out. He also describes how he believes the Disney legend started.
According to the book, shortly before Disneys death, Nelson received a call from a woman who described herself as an associate of the Walt Disney Studio. The Disney rep had called to get information on cryopreservation, including what facilities there were, what doctors were involved and how many people had been frozen.
Nelson wrote that his heart sank. No one had been frozen yet, and no cryogenic facility existed. He gave the rep the names of two doctors, Dr. Dante Brunol and Dr. Renault Able, who were scientific collaborators. She thanked him and the call ended.
Nelson died in 2018 and is currently frozen at the Cryonics Institute. But in researching the origins of the Disney story, we were led to Dr. Michael Perry, a historian of cryonics, whos been interested in the field since the 1960s and is a member of the Alcor Life Extension Foundation. Perry, whod known Nelson since 1990, had helped him with his memoir, performing such tasks as fact-checking.
Perry confirmed Disney wasnt frozen.
As far as any of us knows, and according to all the claims I have ever seen, he was cremated, not frozen, he told HuffPost.
He also said Nelsons description of the Disney call is accurate.
Disney studios did briefly contact him, Perry said. It was before his organization, Cryonics Society of California, had frozen anybody. They didnt have any real facilities. They had a couple of doctors they worked with, but theyre not really doing it yet. And thats pretty much it. Apparently, that was the only contact (Nelson) had, just that one phone call.
One call was enough, it seems, to perpetuate the rumor.
Some rumors just wont die down, and I think it just captures peoples attention, and they keep it going, Perry said. Maybe people find it intriguing that Disney might be frozen.

What it means to be a cyborg in 2019 – Quartz
I have a four-foot-tall robot in my house that plays with my kids. Its name is Jethro.
Both my daughters, aged 5 and 9, are so enamored with Jethro that they have each asked to marry it. For fun, my wife and I put on mock weddings. Despite the robot being mainly for entertainment, its very basic artificial intelligence can perform thousands of functions, including dance and teach karate, which my kids love.
The most important thing Jethro has taught my kids is that its totally normal to have a walking, talking machine around the house that you can hang out with whenever you want to.
Given my daughters semi-regular use of smartphones and tablets, I have to wonder how this will affect them in the future. Will they have any fear of technologies like driverless cars? Will they take it for granted that machine intelligences and avatars on computers can be their best friends, or even their bosses?
Will marrying a super-intelligent robot in 20 years be a natural decision? Even though I love technology, Im not sure how I would feel about having a robot-in-law. But my kids might think nothing of it.
This is my story of transhumanism.

My transhumanism journey began in 2003 when I was reporting a story for National Geographic in Vietnams demilitarized zone and I almost stepped on a landmine.
I remember my guide roughly shoving me aside and pointing to the metal object half sticking out of the ground in front of me.
I stared at the device that would have completely blown my legs off had my boot tripped the mine. I had just turned 30. The experience left me shaken. And it kept haunting me.
That night as I lay tense and awake in my hotel room, I had the epiphany that has helped define the rest of my life: I decided that the most important thing in my existence was to fight for survival. To put it another way: My goal was to never die.
Because I was not religious, I immediately turned to the thing that gave meaning to my world: science and technology. I took a leap of faith and made a wager that day. I later called this (and even later, dedicated a book to it) the transhumanist wager.
The life extension business of transhumanism will be a $600 billion industry by 2025.
My idea for an immortality wager came from Pascals Wager, the famous bet that caught on in the 17th century that loosely argued it was better to believe in God than not to, because you would be granted an afterlife if there was indeed a God. My transhumanist wager was based in my belief that its better to dedicate our resources to science and technology to overcome death while were still aliveso we dont ever have to find out whether there is an afterlife or not. It turns out I wasnt alone in my passion to live indefinitely through science. A small social movement, mostly of academics and researchers, were tackling similar issues, starting organizations, and funding research.
Some of them called themselves transhumanists.
Fast-forward 16 years from my landmine incident, and transhumanism has grown way beyond its main mission of just overcoming death with science.
Now the movement is the de facto philosophy (maybe even the religion) of Silicon Valley. It encapsulates numerous futurist fields: singularitarianism, cyborgism, cryonics, genetic editing, robotics, AI, biohacking, and others.
Biohacking in particular has taken offthe practice of physically hacking ones body with science, changing and augmenting our physiology the same way computer hackers would infiltrate a mainframe.
Its pretty obvious why it has emerged as such a big trend: It attracts the youth.
Not surprisingly, worrying about death is something that older people usually do (and, apparently, those younger people who almost step on landmines). Most young people feel invincible. But tell young people they can take brain drugs called nootropics that make them super smart, or give them special eye drops that let them see in the dark, or give them a chip implant that enhances human ability (like the one I have), and a lot of young people will go for it.
In 2016, I ran for the US presidency as the Transhumanist Party nominee. To get support from younger biohackers, my team and I journeyed on the Immortality Busmy 38-foot coffin-shaped campaign busto Grindfest, the major annual biohacking meet-up in Tehachapi, California. In an old dentists chair in a garage, biohackers injected me with a horse syringe containing a small radio-frequency-identification implant that uses near-field communication technologythe same wireless frequency used in most smartphones. The tiny deviceits about the size of a grain of ricewas placed just under the skin in my hand. With my chip, I could start a car, pay with bitcoin, and open my front door with a lock reader.
Four years later, I still have the implant and use it almost every day. For surfers or joggers like myself, for example, its great because I dont have to carry keys around.
One thing I do have to navigate is how some religious people view me once they understand I have one. Evangelical Christians have told me that an implant is the mark of the beast, as in from the Bibles Book of Revelations.
Even though Im tagged by conspiracy theorists as a potential contender for the Antichrist, I cant think of any negatives in my own experiences to having a chip implant. But as my work in transhumanism has reached from the US Military to the World Bank to many of the worlds most well-known universities, my chip implant only exasperates this conspiracy.
While people often want to know what other things Ive done to my body, in reality becoming a cyborg is a lot less futuristic and drastic than people think.
For me and for the thousands of people around the world who have implants, its all about functionality. An implant simply makes our lives easier and more efficient. Mine also sends out pre-written text messages when peoples phones come within a few feet of me, which is a fun party trick.
But frankly, a lot of the most transformative technology is still being developed, and if youre healthy like me, theres really not much benefit in doing a lot of biohacking today.
I take nootropics for better brain memory, but theres no conclusive research I know of that it actually works yet. Ive done some brainwave therapy, sometimes called direct neurofeedback, or biofeedback, but I didnt see any lasting changes. I fly drones for fun, and of course I also have Jethro, our family robot.
For the most part, members of the disabled community are the ones who are truly benefiting from transhumanist technologies today. If you have an arm shot off in a war, its cyborg science that gives you a robot arm controlled by your neural system that allows you to grab a beer, play the piano, or shake someones hand again.
But much more dramatic technology is soon to come. And the hope is that it will be availableand accessibleto everyone.
I asked to be added to a volunteer list for an experiment that will place implants in peoples brains that would allow us to communicate telepathically, using AI. (Biohacking trials like this are secretive because they are coming under more intense legal scrutiny.)Im also looking into getting a facial recognition security system for my home. I might even get a pet dog robot; these have become incredibly sophisticated, have fur softer than the real thing (that doesnt shed all over your couch or trigger allergies) and can even act as security systems.
Beyond that, people are using stem cells to grow new teeth, genetic editing to create designer babies, and exoskeleton technology that will likely allow a human to run on water in the near future.
Most people generally focus on one aspect of transhumanism, like just biohacking, or just AI, or just brainwave-tech devices. But I like to try it all, embrace it all, and support it all. Whatever new transhumanist direction technology takes, I try to take it all in and embrace the innovation.
This multi-faceted approach has worked well in helping me build a bridge connecting the various industries and factions of the transhumanist movement. Its what inspired me to launch presidential and California gubernatorial campaigns on a transhumanist platform. Now Im embarking on a new campaign in 2020 for US president as a Republican, hoping to get conservatives to become more open-minded about the future.
The amount of money flowing into transhumanist projects is growing into many billions of dollars. The life extension business of transhumanism will be a $600 billion industry by 2025, according to Bank of America. This is no time for transhumanism to break apart into many different divisions, and its no time to butt heads. We need to unite in our aim to truly change the human being forever.
Transhumanistsit doesnt matter what kind you arebelieve they can be more than just human. The word natural is not in our vocabulary. Theres only what transhumanists can do with the tools of science and technology they create. That is our great calling: to evolve the human being into something better than it is.
Because transhumanism has grown so broadly by now, not all transhumanists agree with me on substantially changing the human being. Some believe we should only use technology to eliminate suffering in our lives. Religious transhumanists believe we should use brain implants and virtual reality to improves our morality and religious behavior. Others tell me politics and transhumanism should never mix, and we must always keep science out of the hands of the government.
We need unity of some significant sort because as we grow at such a fast rate there are a lot of challenges ahead. For example, the conservative Christian Right wants to enact moratoriums against transhumanism. The anarcho-primativists, led by people like the primitivist philosopher and author John Zerzan (who I debated once at Stanford University), want to eliminate much technology and go back to a hunting-gathering lifestyle which they believe is more in tune with Earths original ecology. And finally, we must be careful that the so-called one percent doesnt take transhumanist technology and leave us all in the dust, by becoming gods themselves with radical tech and not sharing the benefits with humanity.
I personally believe the largest danger of the transhumanist era is the fact that within a few decades, we will have created super-intelligent AI. What if this new entity simply decides it doesnt like humans? If something is more sophisticated, powerful, intelligent, and resilient than humans, we will have a hard time stopping it if it wants to harm or eliminate us.
Whatever happens in the future, we must take greater care than we ever have before as our species enters the transhumanist age. For the first time, we are on the verge of transforming the physical structure of our bodies and our brains. And we are inventing machines that could end up being more intelligent and powerful than we are. This type of change requires that not only governments act together, but also cultures, religions, and humanity as a whole.
In the end, I believe that a lot more people will be on board with transhumanism than admit it. Nearly all of us want to eliminate disease, protect our families from death, and create a better path and purpose for science and technology.
But I also realize that this must be done ever so delicately, so as not to prematurely push our species into crisis with our unbridled arrogance. One day, we humans may look back and revel in how far our species has evolvedinto undying mammals, cyborgs, robots, and even pure living data. And the most important part will be to be able to look back and know we didnt destroy ourselves to get there.

Ahh, the Splendid Splinter, back from cryonics, good to hear from you. Perhaps the fact that youve been in the deep freeze for a couple decades might explain your mistaken understanding of the current golf club technology landscape. The good news is the technology in irons is vastly improved over the past 15 years, sort of like how baseball bats are better now that theyre not made of wood anymore. Of course, the primary reason for better iron designs is that much of the same technologies that have made drivers so awesome have found their ways into irons. Super thin faces? Check. Variable face thicknesses? Check. Multiple materials and dramatic weight savings that allow for a lower center of gravity and higher flight? Check and double check. Those technologies came to drivers first, because, well, as has been said, chicks dig the long ball. But secondly, its a lot easier to work within the structure of a hollow, 460-cubic-centimeter, pie-plate-faced driver than it is in the oddly asymmetrical shape of an iron. But that hasnt stopped progress in irons.
We just finished at looking at more than 70 irons for the 2020 Hot List, and wed guess that at least 95 percent of them have faster faces than they did as little as two years ago. Today, there are a whole bunch of irons with springlike effect very near or in some cases exceeding that of drivers. (OK, technically, no face can violate the springlike effect rules. But some irons are getting pretty spicy hot these days.) Heres another key point, not only are irons hotter today, its easier to make them fly higher, too. In one of our recent tests, we found that not only did new 7-irons go farther than 6-irons from a decade ago, they flew as higher or higher than many of those old 7-irons, too. Even comparing 7-irons from just a handful of years ago, we saw sometimes as much as a 20-yard distance advantage and on average a three-yard gain in carry distance on mis-hits and two yards higher flight. In short, today's irons are longer with better stopping power. And we havent even begun to address the advancements in hybrids or even utility irons that make your old long irons not even worth saving, cryonically or any other way you might choose.
Someone explain to me why lofts have been evolving and getting stronger. Or as Brandel Chamblee calls it, "loft creep." Im guessing guys can dial these clubs in and hit all sorts of trajectories high/low/mid even with the stronger lofts and the distance gained is coveted. @WeekendHack_YT
Dear Hack: Some of this is about physics and some of this is about business. First, the latter: If you want to sell clubs these days, particularly irons, you have to have technology that generates ball speed that shows up on a launch monitor. More ball speed means more distance. Of course, the easiest and fastest way to generate ball speed is not some super thin, heat-treated magic steel alloy. Its by making your 7-iron stronger lofted than someone elses. Weve even heard some manufacturers have taken to retool their demo clubs to a stronger loft than their standard just so they can better compete with other companies lower lofts. Messy, of course, when the 7-iron you got fit for in the shop is longer than the 7-iron that you actually buy, but thats why you should ask an extra question or two about the lofts of the irons youre testing. Not all 7-irons are, well, 7-irons.
Still, there also is some serious physics happening here. As club technologies have allowed for the center of gravity to get lower (leading in some cases to higher launch), an iron can then be designed with a stronger loft that takes advantage of that higher launch. Faster ball speed with the same or higher launch means more distance and a better landing trajectory. Thats why when you start seriously testing potential new irons, dont just look at distance. Use the modern technology of a launch monitor to assess those landing angles. Ideally, you want your shots to have a landing angle of more than 45 degrees for best performance coming into a green. The one problem with these stronger lofts in your middle irons: Bad distance gaps in your short irons. If the set youre eyeballing features a pitching wedge with less than 45 degrees of loft, our recommendation is to add another wedge every 4-5 degrees. The more full swings you can make at the short end of the set, the more scoring youll be doing with the scoring clubs.

Although it certainly would seem logical that you would want all of your clubs to effectively feel the same as you swing them, fact is, from doing dozens of Whats In My Bags with tour pros for Golf Digest, weve seen it both ways. Some players like to keep all their swingweights the same (although sand and lob wedges tend to have a heavier swingweight), while some have numerous different swingweights with their clubs. Tony Finau, for instance, is D-6+ in his driver and D-4 in his fairway wood, although they rarely vary widely. So although consistency is generally a good thing, its not an absolute. If it feels good to you when youre swinging it, theres probably not much need to mess around with it.

Actually, the new regulations on grooves went into effect in 2010, so it has been almost 10 years that wedge designers have been working within the new framework. Its interesting that back then the rule was viewed as spin Armageddon. Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington started using original Ping Eye2 lob wedges because its grooves were grandfathered in and Stewart Cink even went so far as to practice with duct tape on the face of his wedges, feeling that would be the equivalent of the new, less-aggressive grooves. But club designers are smart people and as many of them will tell you, while they dont like to have design within a box, a new rule always provides an opportunity to best figure out how to design within it. Thats what has happened here. Today golfers still apply plenty of spin to the ball and can hit pretty much all the shots they need to. Designers have explored areas such as edge radius and surface roughness, making designs with more grooves closer together and ones that even employ a half-groove on the bottom of the face to squeeze out as many revolutions per minute of spin they can. A significant difference? That might actually be an understatement.

Searching for the Fountain of Youth – McGill Tribune
Montreal community members crowded into the Redpath Museum Auditorium on Sept. 27 for a Freaky Friday lecture. In the talk, Professor Joe Schwarcz, Director of the McGill Office for Science and Society, discussed humanitys historical attempts to delay aging.
Nobody looks forward to getting old, Schwarcz said. Historically, there has been this search for the Fountain of Youth, and, over the years, many anti-aging regimens have been developed.
One such regimen consisted of bathing in sour donkey milk and was practiced by Queen Cleopatra in the first century BC. Modern science suggests that, since sour milk contains lactic acid, the remedy could have had a slight rejuvenating effect. Lactic acid belongs to a class of compounds called alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that speed up the turnover of skin cells and are now marketed in cosmetic face creams.
In the 19th century, physiologist Charles Brown-Squard observed that eunuchs suffered from medical problems and hypothesized that a substance present in the testes was the key to health and longevity. He injected himself with extracts from dog testes, inspiring other researchers to further investigate gland transplants.
This tradition continued into the early 20th century when John Brinkley, a charlatan without medical credentials, made a fortune by transplanting the testicles of goats into the scrota of aging men.
He had very few complications because he never connected the goat testicles to anything, but he had plenty of men saying how happy they were, [] undoubtedly due to the placebo effect, Schwarcz said. Although we look back on these ventures as being virtually comical, [] this really was the beginning of hormonal therapy.
Attempts to exploit the gullibility of the public persisted, even as legitimate science advanced. Human growth hormone (HGH), the production of which declines as a person ages, became a widely promoted remedy after a 1990 study observed that HGH treatments increased lean mass and bone density in elderly men.
HGH, at the time, was very difficult to come by, Schwarcz said. But there were clinics that popped up [] that were offering HGH injections for much less than [the expected price], so no one knows what they were actually injecting.
When public awareness caught up, companies instead began marketing an HGH secretagogue, a substance that supposedly stimulates the secretion of raw materials to form HGH proteins inside the body. However, HGH levels decline because of the reduced activity of enzymes that assemble raw materials into proteins, not because of a shortage of raw materials.
Supplying these secretagogues is like supplying bricks and windows and doors and hoping that they will assemble themselves into a building, which will not happen because the builder is missing, Schwarcz said.
Schwarcz also noted that the manipulative tactics of advertisers are present in many modern anti-aging products.
Marketing very often uses clever words such as It may help [] and, as soon as you do that, you are protected legally, Schwarcz said.
Some companies push this principle above and beyond. Based in Arizona, the Alcor Life Extension Foundation specializes in cryonics, a pseudoscience that insists on freezing human corpses in the hope of resurrecting them in the future.
It [costs] at least $100,000, Schwarcz said. This is of course nonsense. When you are cold and dead, you are dead.
While some make expensive bets on futuristic technologies, Schwarczs recommendations for prolonging life are a lot less flashy. Okinawa Island in Japan is home to more centenarians than any other place in the world. The lifestyle of this population is characterized by a high consumption of fish, vegetables, and fruit, a low consumption of red meat and processed food, and high levels of activity.
Eating a proper balanced diet, [] exercise, and [genetics] are a few keys, but these are not highly marketable, Schwarcz said. There constantly are these miracle solutions, but there are no miracles.

Trinity College Dublin biochemist Luke ONeill has, with the help of illustrator Linda Fhrlin, produced an excellent new book for children, The Great Irish Science book.
To interview him I conscript the help of my nephews Cillian (10) and Senan Cummins (8) and their friend Elisa Mac Gabhann (11). When we arrive at TCDs biochemistry building, Prof ONeill tells us about the 800 scientists working in the building and his own work in immunology.
The immune system is like the defence system, says Senan, who has done his research. Theyve read the book thoroughly and taken notes.
The trouble is the immune system goes wrong sometimes and that makes people sore, says ONeill. So people with arthritis might be sore.
Like this! says Senan and he cracks his wrists.
Do you know what that crack is? asks the professor.
Its nitrogen bubbles, says Senan.
Up in the immunology lab ONeill tests the knowledge of his youthful lab partners. Why is blood red? he asks.
They dont know. He explains. Iron goes red when it rusts. Rust is called iron oxide and its quite similar. The reason why blood is red is because it carries oxygen. Why is the grass green?
Same thing? says Senan, hopefully.
The grass is green because the sun is yellow and the sky is blue and that makes green, chips in Etain, Senan and Cillians sister. Etain is here in an unofficial capacity and has not read the book.
ONeill laughs. Another metal called magnesium makes grass green. [Its in] chlorophyll, which is good at absorbing the sunlight and it uses energy in sunlight to make more of itself.
He has another question. Why is your poo brown?
Same thing? says Senan again.
You cant keep saying same thing, says Cillian.
Why is your poo brown? repeats ONeill.
Look, we dont really want to know, says Senan.
The red blood cells that are in your blood eventually get broken down and turn brown, says ONeill. So its mainly coming from red blood cells and you make stuff in your bile to help you digest food and thats a kind of brown.
Oh my God, says Elisa, saying what were all thinking.
Why is the sky blue? asks ONeill.
Because its a reflection of the sea? suggests Elisa.
Close but no cigar, says ONeill. An Irish guy called Tyndall discovered that the blue bounces off the dust particles in the atmosphere. If we didnt have particles in the atmosphere what colour would the sky be?
Black, says Cillian. Like space.
The nearest star to Earth, do you know what it is? asks ONeill.
It begins with an A, says Senan.
Its called Alpha Centauri, says ONeill. Its over four light years away.
The sun is a big star, says Etain.
Yes, its the nearest star, says ONeill.
But you said Alpha Centauri, says Cillian, whos been paying attention.
Yeah, people often get this wrong at quizzes, says ONeill. After the sun, the nearest star is Alpha Centauri.
What is the sun made of? asks ONeill.
About a gazillion years ago the sun was formed from a big giant puff of gas, says Senan.
What is the gas the sun is made of? asks the professor, before offering a clue: There was a Greek god called Helios.
Helium! says Elisa.
And the second one is hydrogen and whats happening is those atoms are bouncing off each other and that creates a huge amount of heat.
At this point theyre all wearing oversized lab coats and goggles and mucking around with dry ice. Is it possible to freeze your body while youre still alive and then come out a few years later and not have aged? asks Elisa.
Thats called cryonics, says ONeill. Were studying cryonics because if you die we could freeze you and if they found a cure a hundred years later we could unfreeze you and give you the cure.
Didnt Walt Disney freeze himself? asks Elisa.
The legend is he froze his head, says ONeill.
Ugh, says Elisa.
We go to a nearby balcony to do some experiments, but someone spots a vending machine and soon Im buying everyone sweets because I am an irresponsible and weak uncle. The first experiment will be to extract DNA from spit.
Who has the most spit? ONeill asks. Theres a short discussion about this. Elisa gets to spit into the glass.
So theres cells in your spit and theres DNA in those cells and the salt is going to burst open those cells. A squirt of soap. And now squeeze some of this pineapple in.
Can I eat it? asks Cillian.
Better not, says ONeill. God knows where its been.
He explains that pineapples have enzymes that are useful for breaking down protein and that the ethanol is going to make the DNA come out of the solution.
He picks out the stringy DNA. The recipe for life, he says. We could make a clone of Elisa.
Elisa eyes him suspiciously, What are you planning to do with my DNA?
For his next experiment, the professor puts a stone representing Ireland into a pool of cold blue water, representing the ocean, into which he pours warmer dyed red water to represent the weather-modifying Gulf Stream. Sadly, this experiment is hindered by our junior scientists desire to make purple.
ONeill cant locate the sheet of paper for the fourth experiment. This is because Senan is drawing on it, so I give the professor a printout of his own book and he creates a volcano with baking soda, vinegar and red dye.
Why is the Earth round but the ground is just flat? asks Senan.
It just seems to be flat but its so huge we dont realise its actually curved, says ONeill. If you went super, super fast you would notice, it would start curving.
Is there life on other planets? asks Elisa.
They reckon theres something like 40 billion planets like the Earth going around stars so there must be life on some of them, says the professor.
In five billion years were going to crash into another galaxy, says Senan. This isnt a question, more a stoically existential statement.
Yes, the Milky Way is going to crash into another galaxy in about five billion years, says ONeill. Thatll be noisy wont it?
No it wont, says Elisa. Because you cant hear sound in space!
The professor is impressed. Thats right! Sound cant travel through a vacuum.
Is it true that seven years on Earth is like two years in space? asks Elisa.
Einstein had this theory, says ONeill, that as you move, time slows down. If you had two identical twins, put one on a space ship and one back on Earth [and] the guy in space will be slightly younger when he meets his brother back on Earth.
Theres a superhero called Quicksilver and hes very fast and when he runs, time slows down, says Senan.
Why did you become a scientist? asks Elisa.
In school I had a biology teacher, Mr Mooney, and he told me about this magical molecule called DNA, says ONeill. I wanted to find out more about that so I went to university and I did science... Science is just about being curious.
Elisa says she wants to be an archaeologist. Archaeologists use science all the time, says ONeill. They use DNA. And they use carbon dating to date how old things are.
You know the moon? asks Senan. If the moon was any closer it would suck up all the water on Earth.
When the moon comes in all the tides go in, says Cillian.
And no one believed that at first, says ONeill. Science is all about having a good idea and then proving it.
All the good science starts off as an idiotic dream, says Cillian, wistfully. Then he asks: What do you do at work every day?
Recently, says ONeill, he and his colleagues have discovered that glucose is burned in a different way in cells when they are having an immune reaction. This, they hope, will lead to new ways of treating inflammatory diseases.
Do scientists test things on animals? asks Elisa.
Sadly, we have to start with animals because its too dangerous to start with humans, says ONeill.
What if there was a robot that could mimic a human or an animal? asks Elisa.
Get this, says ONeill. Were now growing bits of human in the lab and thats better than testing on animals.
How many books have you written? asks Senan.
This is the second book Ive written. Ive written another one for adults) (Humanology).
Whos your favourite scientist? asks Elisa.
Charles Darwin, he says. He explained life on Earth through evolution. Hes Elvis Presley for biologists. He also made sure to include lots of female scientists in his book, he says.
Like Marie Curie! says Elisa.
Yes! Only four people have won two Nobel prizes and shes one of them. Shes very famous for [discovering] radioactivity.

First Impressions: Melting Me Softly Has Warmth, Mystery, And Ji Chang Wook – soompi
Hey guys, have you heard? Ji Chang Wook is BAAAAACK!
Melting Me Softly, Ji Chang Wooks first post-military drama, tells the story of Ma Dong Chan (Ji Chang Wook) and Go Mi Ran (Won Jin Ah) who volunteer themselves to be frozen for 24 hours as part of a cryogenics experiment-slash-variety show production. However, things go awry when they arent warmed and woken up by the end of the 24 hours, but instead, are woken up 20 years later!
So far, the first two episodes are mostly set in the year 1999 (pre-freeze), and we see the respective social circles of Ma Dong Chan and Go Mi Ran as well as the whys and hows of the cryogenic experiment.
Warning: Spoilers ahead. Proceed with caution!
Ma Dong Chan is an award-winning variety showdirectorwho enjoys taking on challenges and taking risks. His newest fascination is with the study of cryogenics, and he wishes to film the process of freezing and unfreezing humans as part of an experiment conducted by Dr. Hwang (Seo Hyun Chul). Wanting toraise the experiments validity,he volunteers himself to be one of the test subjects while also intending to enlist a female test subject.
Son Hyun Ki (FTISLANDs Lee Hong Ki) suggests Go Mi Ranforthe position. He reminds Dong Chan about Mi Rans risk-taking capabilities as shownby her volunteering for whatever far-fetched experiment Dong Chan was concocting for his variety show Infinite Experiment Paradise. He agrees that she would be a good candidate, but alas, Mi Rans fearlessness stops short ofallowing herself to be frozen.
Dong Chan and Hyun Ki doggedly pursue Mi Ran in hopes to convince her to join them, and they find her hanging around the riverbank with her friends. Also at the riverbank? Mi Rans boyfriend, Hwang Byung Shim (B1A4s Baro), who is on a pedal-boat date. With another girl. That ends as spectacularly as you would imagine it to, and all parties involved end up at the police station for questioning. While Dong Chan doesnt get an opportunity to persuade Mi Ran, he does get a front row seat toher spit-fire personality.
When you have one mate too many.
When Dong Chan does eventually meet Mi Ran, she remains adamant in her refusal. That is, until he mentions that cryonics has reported healing abilities, and they couldbe playing a part in changing how treatments and medicine work in the future.This makes her think of her younger brother, Nam Tae, who has adevelopmental disability, and is finally motivated to join the experiment.
The day of the experiment finally arrives, and Dong Chan and Mi Ran are frozen along with four other undisclosed test subjects. They set the clock for 24 hours, and Hyun Ki and his crew film the whole process for their variety show.
Things go as expected until about two hours left on the clock, whenDr. Hwang suddenly says he has to step out for a bit. His assistant is worried as they have to start the unfreezing process soon, butDr. Hwang insists hell be backvery soon. And so the doctor (who is also the only one capable of unfreezing the test subjects by the way) leaves the facility. Long story short, Dr. Hwang ends up in a car chase, and just whenyou breathe a sigh of relief that hes avoided the truck of doom, his car goes kaboom!
And so,with the 24 hours now up and withoutthe doctor to initiate the unfreezing process, things in the facility rapidly go haywire. The assistant locks the camera crew out, and before anyone realizes whats happening, everything in the lab has disappeared, including the capsules holding the test subjects. Hyun Ki and his superior decide to keep this a secret while also bribing Dong Chans girlfriend Na Ha Young (Chae Seo Jin) tokeep her silence with a position as a prime time news anchor.
The respective families only know that Dong Chan and Mi Ran have gone missing but do not know the details surrounding their disappearance. Dong Chans family persistently hands out missing person flyers over the years hoping to hear any news but to no fruition. Mi Rans family, on the other hand, receives a mysterious envelope clueing them in that Mi Ran is actually alive, but they have to stay quiet if they want her to live.
Thats a little over 6 months, if youre wondering.
Fast forward years later, and we arrive in 2019. It turns out that Dr. Hwang somehow survived the accident (looking completely unscathed too) but has been in a coma. He miraculously wakes up and staggers over to inject Dong Chan and Mi Ran with a serum and starts the unfreezing process. The two of them wake up at different times and make their way out into the world (with a fresh set of clothes no less!). After more staggering, Dong Chancollapsesand gets sent to the hospital, whereas Mi Ran manages to go to quite a few places despite her sickly state. It takes a while for reality to set in, but they finally realize that its no longer 1999, and the people around them have, well, aged 20 years.
There are individual elements of the premiere that I really enjoyed: Ji Chang Wook, Mi Rans relationship with her brother, Mi Ran and her two friends, seeing Hong Ki and Baro one last time before their military enlistments, the feel of the the late 90s, Ji Chang WookAnd yet, for me personally, the premiere as a wholedidnt quite sparkle as much as Id hoped it would. I cant quite place my finger on whats off maybe its the over-the-top sequences like Mi Ran suddenly displaying kung fu skills or the whole opera singer-dinner scene, maybe its the supporting characters (everyone around Dong Chan circa-2019 feels loud), maybe its the pacing, or maybe its something else. Whatever it is, something is preventing me from really falling for the drama.
The scenes of Nam Tae missing his sister were heartbreaking. T.T
With the show now in 2019,there are a different batch of actors taking over the roles(now that theyve aged 20 years).How the chemistry will play out is still yet to be seen, but for sure the younger counterparts will be missed (Baro as the narcissistic, Freud-loving ex-boyfriend is hilarious). The chemistry between the older actors remains unknown, and well just have to wait and see how everything plays out.That being said, I can already imagine Shim Hyung Tak as the older-but-just-as-self-involved Hwang Byung Shim, andit already feels amazing!

Storyline-wise,there are parts where the writing may make you want to facepalm, such as when the doctorsuddenlyneeds to leave with two hours left on the clock, orthat the medical staff at the hospital all seem rather lost, or that post-freeze Mi Ran still manages to wander all around the city even though she looks like shes about to collapse any minute. However, the threads of mystery are intriguing enough. I definitely want to know who the other four test subjects are (Is it Freddie Mercury?!), and just how did Dr. Hwang survive that explosion with nary a burn mark?!
All in all, Melting Me Softly has the ingredients to make for a great drama, but it may need a bit more heat to get it to just the right temperature.
